Hi everyone! My name is Abby Blackwood (PC ‘18) and I am so honored to serve as the president of SPURS Sorority for Spring 2020. As a rushee, SPURS stood out to me as something I wanted to be a part of instantly. The presence SPURS have on Trinity’s campus is unmatched, and I am lucky to know that same pride that so many before me have repped. My time as a SPUR is something that I will cherish for life, and the relationships I have created with my sisters are invaluable.
Within our club, you can find women from diverse backgrounds who are motivated and driven to succeed in all aspects of their lives. Constantly, we strive to be the best women we can be and to empower one another to lead others throughout our campus and our community. Whether it’s volunteering for our philanthropy, Haven for Hope, or connecting with alumni, being a SPUR has given me so many opportunities to grow as a leader. Our values encourage members to be the best people we can be and the support we provide for one another is overwhelming. Each member brings a unique and valued presence to our sisterhood, and the amount of love and pride SPURS have for another is truly empowering. The women of SPURS inspire me on a daily basis and being a part of this organization is something I am incredibly grateful for.
Going into 2020, we look forward to continuing our tradition of greatness. With Bid Day right around the corner, we are eager to welcome the new pledge class of wonderful girls and to show them what our club is all about. Growing our club and continuing to connect with alumni are just a few among the many great things we have already planned for 2020, and I am so excited to be leading this organization. There is so much to look forward to this year!
Thank you for visiting our website! Feel free to contact myself or another member if you have any questions at all. We would love to hear from you!

SPURS Sorority was founded in 1932 at Westmoreland College in San Antonio, which was later incorporated into Trinity University. It is the oldest student organization at Trinity University and boasts over 1,400 Spur-Exes.
SPURS began as an organization for women interested in supporting or “spurring” on Trinity’s athletic teams. Under the leadership of Dr. Frances K. Hendricks, over time this group formally became a social sorority named SPURS.
